A beautiful antique French wall-mounted bénitier dedicated to Sainte Jeanne d'Arc.

Dating from around the 1920s, it features a richly coloured onyx front fitted with a silver-toned medal depicting Joan of Arc. The medal bears the dates 1412–1431, together with 1920—the year she was canonised—and the inscription “Sainte Jeanne d'Arc, priez pour nous.”

A small decorative plaque reads “Ste de Domrémy,” referring to Domrémy, the French village where Joan of Arc was born.

At the base is a clear moulded-glass holy-water receptacle held within an ornate metal mount. The piece has a brass back fitted with its original hanging ring for wall display.

The onyx has lovely natural bands of cream, honey, soft green and warm brown. The brass back and metal fittings have developed an aged patina, with surface wear and oxidation consistent with the piece's age. The glass receptacle appears intact.
