A beautiful antique French First Communion medal, finely made in silver with a contrasting gold Communion chalice and host.

The central design depicts the Eucharistic chalice beneath the consecrated host, surrounded by finely detailed wheat and grapes representing the bread and wine of Holy Communion. The gold has a warm, slightly rose-coloured appearance that contrasts beautifully with the aged silver.

On French religious medals of this period, applied gold details were commonly made from high-carat gold, often 18 or 22 carat. The gold on this medal has not been tested, so its precise fineness cannot be guaranteed.

The central Eucharistic scene is framed by an elaborate pierced silver border composed of eight scrolling floral panels, separated by tiny applied flowers and leaves. The openwork construction gives the medal a particularly delicate and decorative appearance.

The reverse is plain and unengraved, while the pierced floral border can be clearly seen from both sides. The medal retains its original hanging ring and could be worn as a pendant or added to a collection of antique French devotional jewellery.

It is in very good antique condition, with light surface wear and a natural patina consistent with age. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
