A striking vintage ceramic wall crucifix sourced in France, with a distinctly mid-century design.

The cross is finished in a rich, glossy red glaze with dark edging, while the stylised figure of Christ is picked out in contrasting silvery-white and black glazes. The elongated form, simplified facial features and flowing black robe give the piece a wonderfully expressive modern appearance.

The crucifix is entirely ceramic and has a hanging fitting on the reverse. It was found in France and is likely French, although it has no maker’s marks to confirm its precise origin. From its style and construction, it probably dates from around the 1960s or 1970s.
