A wonderfully authentic vintage French artist’s wooden paint box, dating from around the 1950s or 1960s.

The box retains its original removable wooden palette, beautifully covered with layers and marks of old paint from years of use. Inside are metal compartments containing assorted old paint tubes, mixing dishes and well-used artist’s sponges. The inside of the lid has wooden fittings designed to hold brushes or other painting tools. The case closes with two metal catches and has its original carrying handle.

Full of genuine character and creative history, this would make an unusual decorative piece for an artist’s studio, creative workspace or vintage-inspired interior. It would also make an interesting gift for an artist or collector of traditional art materials.

The remaining paints and accessories have not been tested and are included as part of the box’s history and appearance rather than for practical use. No maker’s marks are visible.

The box is in authentic vintage used condition, with scratches, knocks, paint marks, staining and wear throughout. The metal fittings have age-related tarnishing and wear, while the palette, compartments and included materials are heavily marked from genuine artistic use. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description. Ther box is in a sturdy useable condition.

The box measures 12.25 inches wide × 10 inches deep × 3.5 inches high (31.1 × 25.4 × 8.9 cm) and weighs 3 lb 10 oz (1,641 g).
