Antique French Sacred Heart Ex Voto Devotional Wall Plaque Under Glass c.1900

A beautiful antique French Sacred Heart devotional wall plaque dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.

This striking Catholic devotional piece features the Sacred Heart of Jesus beneath convex glass, surrounded by radiant gilt rays against a deep black ground with an ornate gold border. The raised Sacred Heart motif to the centre is richly coloured in red, with the IHS Christogram and crown of thorns picked out in delicate detail.

The plaque reflects the deeply personal devotional objects once commonly displayed in French Catholic homes at the turn of the century.

Set within an oval brass-tone frame with hanging loop to the reverse, it displays beautifully on a wall either alone or amongst a collection of antique religious pieces.

Measures approximately 7.75"H x 5.75"W x 7/8"D or 19.5 x 14.5 x 2.2 cm. Weight approximately 7 oz or 207 grams.
