Antique French Silver Rosary Pale Blue Faceted Beads Vermeil Crucifix Marian Centre Enamel Medal
A beautiful French antique rosary with luminous pale blue finely faceted glass beads and elegant silver fittings, retaining traces of its original vermeil finish to the centrepiece and crucifix.
This devotional rosary has a wonderfully soft and delicate appearance, the translucent blue beads catching the light beautifully with their fine faceting. The ornate crucifix retains areas of warm gilded vermeil over silver, creating a lovely contrast with the silver chain and centre. The centrepiece and crucifix are both hallmarked for French silver, confirming the quality of the piece, and all parts are silver including the chain and small pater medals.
It measures - 21.25"L. Circumference 28". Crucifix 1.75"H x 1.125"W. Weight 54.85 grams. Beads 8mm.
The centrepiece bears a Marian symbol to the front, while the reverse is engraved "JV" and "E.268," adding an intriguing personal and devotional touch to the rosary's history.
The small attached medal is decorated with pale blue enamel and complements the colour of the beads perfectly. Although the medal is unhallmarked, it appears entirely in keeping with the rosary and period.
The rosary has a graceful, refined feel, with attractive decorative detailing to the crucifix and centre. A lovely example for devotion, collecting, display, or gifting.
Condition is good antique condition with age-related wear consistent with devotional use. The vermeil finish has faded over time, particularly to the crucifix and centrepiece, which only adds to its gentle antique character. The blue enamel medal shows some wear.
