Antique French Vermeil First Communion Pendant: Hand Etched Chalice

Rare antique French hand-etched first communion pendant. This beautiful pendant bears the sanglier hallmark for French silver, along with a maker's mark. It is vermeil, a fine layer of gold over silver, and the quality is such that it also tests as gold.

The pretty openwork design shows a lidded chalice topped with a cross. Etched on the banners either side of the chalice are the words Souvenir de 1re Communion, meaning “Souvenir of First Communion”. The reverse is plain, while all the decoration has been hand etched.

A very unusual pendant that would make a thoughtful gift for a special religious occasion.

It measures 1 inch in diameter or 2.5 cm and weighs 2.86 grams.
