Large Antique French Silver Rosary with Purple Faceted Beads c.1900

A beautiful and substantial antique French rosary dating to the early 20th century, made with richly coloured finely faceted purple beads and fitted with hallmarked French silver devotional elements.

The large faceted beads catch the light beautifully, displaying deep violet and amethyst-like tones. The larger pater beads are finished with decorative silver caps, adding an elegant touch to the design. The silver centrepiece bears the crowned Marian monogram, while the ornate crucifix features a finely detailed corpus and attractive Gothic-inspired decoration.

All pertinent parts are silver. Both the crucifix and centrepiece are clearly hallmarked for French silver.

The beads have the appearance of amethyst and may be amethyst, crystal, or high-quality amethyst-coloured glass. As they have not been gemologically tested, they are being sold as purple faceted beads.

This is a lovely substantial rosary with a pleasing weight and presence, making it ideal for prayer, display, or collecting. It would also make a meaningful gift for a First Communion, Confirmation, wedding, or other special religious occasion. It was bought in an antique fair near my home here in France.
