A beautiful antique French rosary dating to the early 20th century, made with faceted bloodstone (heliotrope) beads and fitted with a hallmarked silver crucifix and matching hallmarked silver centrepiece. All pertinent parts are silver and retain a lovely antique patina developed through age and devotional use.

The faceted beads are carved from bloodstone, also known as heliotrope, a gemstone prized for its deep green colour and distinctive natural red inclusions. The facets catch the light beautifully, bringing life to the stone and highlighting the unique patterns found within each bead. The larger pater beads display particularly attractive colour variation and natural markings.

The hallmarked silver crucifix is finely detailed with an openwork design and radiant decoration behind the corpus, while the matching silver centrepiece complements it perfectly. Together they create an elegant and well-made devotional piece typical of the quality found in French religious items of the period.

The combination of richly coloured bloodstone and silver gives this rosary a distinctive appearance that sets it apart from more commonly encountered glass-beaded examples. It is equally suited to prayer, display, or addition to a collection of antique devotional objects.

A wonderful and unusual antique French rosary that would also make a thoughtful gift for a collector of religious antiques or gemstone rosaries.

Bloodstone, traditionally known as heliotrope, has long held special significance within Christian tradition. Its deep green colour flecked with red was believed to symbolize Christ's blood shed at Calvary, and for centuries the stone has been associated with faith, sacrifice, courage, and devotion. For this reason it was often chosen for religious jewellery, rosaries, and devotional objects.

Condition is good antique condition with gentle age-related wear and patina consistent with age and careful use. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
