Antique French Leather Doctor’s Bag , Large Gladstone Medical Bag

A handsome vintage leather doctor's bag found in France and likely dating from around the 1920s–1940s. Its large structured form, generous opening and traditional hinged frame are typical of the practical bags once carried by doctors and other travelling professionals.

The bag is made from warm brown leather with a finely textured surface and retains its stitched leather carrying handle, brass-toned frame fittings, central lock and two additional upper catches.

The brass-toned fittings have developed an attractive patina with age. Both upper catches work correctly and hold the bag securely closed, while the traditional hinged frame opens and closes smoothly.

The hinged frame opens widely to reveal a spacious brown fabric-lined interior. With its classic Gladstone form and beautifully aged leather, this would make a wonderful display piece, unusual storage bag or addition to a collection of vintage medical and travel accessories.

The bag shows genuine wear from age and use, including rubbing, scratches, colour variation and small marks to the leather. The handle has noticeable surface wear, while the metal fittings have developed tarnish and patina. The interior lining has creasing, dust and age-related marks.
