Vintage Florentine Folding Religious Triptych, Madonna and Child, Italian Gilt Devotional Shrine
A charming vintage Florentine folding devotional triptych, beautifully decorated with traditional gilt gesso over wood and Renaissance-inspired religious images.
The central panel depicts the Madonna tenderly holding the Christ Child, while the two folding side panels feature musical angels, one playing a violin and the other a tambourine, creating a peaceful and harmonious devotional scene. The ornate Gothic-inspired shape and richly gilded finish are characteristic of Florentine craftsmanship and make this a lovely display piece for a prayer corner, shelf, mantelpiece or collection of Christian art.
The reverse is finished in plain wood, allowing the beautifully decorated front to take centre stage. The hinged side panels fold neatly closed to protect the artwork when not on display.
Florentine devotional panels such as this became popular during the mid-20th century, drawing inspiration from the masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance. They remain highly collectible today for their warm colours, decorative gilding and traditional craftsmanship.
The triptych is presented in good vintage condition with gentle age-related wear consistent with its age and use. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
