Antique French Hallmarked Silver Vermeil Rosary with Faceted Blue Glass Beads

A lovely antique French rosary made with faceted oval blue glass beads and fitted with a hallmarked silver crucifix and matching hallmarked silver centrepiece. The silver retains traces of its original vermeil finish, now softly faded with age.

The blue glass beads have a beautiful colour and catch the light nicely. Their oval shape gives the rosary a slightly different look from the more common round-beaded examples and adds to its charm. Both the crucifix and centrepiece are hallmarked for silver and are nicely detailed, showing the quality often found in French devotional pieces of this period.

The remaining traces of vermeil — a layer of gold applied over silver — give the rosary a warm tone in places and are a lovely reminder of its age and history. Much of the gilding has worn gently over time, leaving a soft patina that many collectors appreciate.
