A wonderfully charming antique French keepsake or presentation box, beautifully hand-painted with yellow flowers and foliage against a warm faux bois ground. The lid is inscribed "Marie Louise" and dated 1899, giving the piece a lovely personal history and unmistakable Belle Époque character.

Opening to reveal a wonderfully luxurious tufted pale pink silk interior, believed to be original, the box has a particularly elegant and feminine feel. The deeply padded buttoned lining creates a sumptuous interior ideal for jewellery, treasured letters, sewing items, gloves, or cherished keepsakes.

The floral decoration continues around the sides, while the underside retains an old retailer's label from Villers-sur-Mer, adding another appealing touch of provenance. The original escutcheon also remains in place, although the key is no longer present.

The hand-painted decoration shows age-related wear and areas of paint loss to the top, giving the box an authentic timeworn character. The box displays beautifully as it is, though the painted top could be sympathetically restored if wished.

A highly decorative and evocative French antique with beautiful colour, gentle age, and romantic late 19th-century charm.

Condition is good antique condition with age-related wear, marks, scuffs, scratches, and paint losses consistent with age and use. Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
