Antique French Mother of Pearl Crucifix Hallmarked Silver Cross c.1900

A beautiful antique French crucifix made from genuine mother of pearl and fitted with hallmarked French silver mounts and corpus. Dating from around 1880–1910, this is a particularly attractive example with wonderfully detailed silver decoration.

The luminous mother-of-pearl cross is enhanced by ornate silver mounts featuring floral and Gothic-inspired decoration at each terminal. The quality of the silver work is noticeably finer than that found on many similar crucifixes, giving the piece an elegant and refined appearance.

The silver corpus is finely detailed and the original suspension ring is hallmarked for French silver. The soft iridescence of the mother of pearl catches the light beautifully and contrasts wonderfully with the aged silver.

Pieces such as this were often treasured family devotional objects and would have marked important religious occasions. Today it would make a lovely addition to a collection of religious antiques or a meaningful gift for a First Communion, Confirmation, wedding, or special religious occasion.
