A beautiful antique French crucifix crafted from luminous mother of pearl and fitted with a finely detailed silver corpus, silver reverse panel, and its original INRI plaque.

What makes this example especially appealing is the engraved silver panel on the reverse, bearing the initials MLT and the date 26 Mai 1892. Such inscriptions were often added to commemorate a First Communion, Confirmation, or another important religious milestone, creating a direct link to the person who originally owned and treasured the piece.

The softly glowing mother of pearl contrasts beautifully with the silver fittings, while the finely detailed corpus is enhanced by a radiant halo behind Christ's head. The simple silver terminal caps and engraved reverse give the crucifix an elegant and understated appearance.

The suspension ring bears a French silver hallmark, and the crucifix retains lovely period character throughout.

A wonderful piece of French Catholic devotional art and a touching survivor from the late nineteenth century. It would make a lovely addition to a collection of religious antiques or a meaningful display piece for the home.
