Antique John Pearson 1898 Newlyn Copper Planter, Arts & Crafts Jardinière with Repoussé Tulips
An exceptional antique Arts & Crafts copper planter attributed to the English metalworker John Pearson of the Newlyn School, Cornwall.
Beautifully made in hand-hammered copper, the planter is decorated with raised tulip motifs in the classic Arts & Crafts style. A decorative fleur-de-lys style border runs around the upper rim and adds lovely detail to the piece.
The hand-worked copper has a warm mellow tone developed over many years, giving the planter wonderful character and depth. Both decorative and practical, it works beautifully as a planter, jardière, or statement decorative piece.
The underside bears the hand-engraved John Pearson signature with the date 1889. Pearson was one of the best-known metalworkers associated with the Newlyn Arts & Crafts movement and is especially admired for his repousse copper work.
A striking and collectible piece of British Arts & Crafts metalwork with strong Art Nouveau influence.
